Animals and it’s Fur in Islam
Published by Jun | Filed under Animals, Fur, Islam
I was browsing Teng’s blog and his post entitled – murder keeps me wonder about the animal’s right in Islamic perspective.
Thank heavens there’s no need to wear fur in the tropics. But that does not put a stopper to the fact that thousands of our furry friends get slaughtered every year to satiate people’s obsession with high fashion that stinks of death. Aside from the fur industry, the leather and wool industry are doing the same thing.
In this murderous age, going veg is absolutely a better choice.
I’m no Islamic scholar or any authority in regards to Islamic Shariah regarding the use of animals furs in fashion or as clothing. So my curiosity leads me to dig and research, thanks to search engine it gives more information. So heres what i found:

Clothing
In Islam using nor wearing a fur is permissible or legally acceptable in Shariah when it is used as clothing to warmth and protect your body from freezing cold places like in Afghanistan and other countries thus have snow and cold weathers. If this fur clothings is used as a luxury items this is the time that makes killing animals for its fur – against Islamic teachings.
Animals raised on fur farms are abused and killed in gruesome ways that conflict with Islamic teachings. They are confined to small, filthy cages, and the unnatural confinement causes many of them to go insane. As a result, many exhibit stereotypic behaviors such as pacing in endless circles, self-mutilating, or cannibalizing one another. When they are finally removed from their cages to be killed, their deaths are painful and inhumane. Typical methods of killing animals on fur farms include anal or vaginal electrocution, injection with weedkiller and other poisons, suffocation, and neck-breaking. Others are simply stunned and skinned alive. All these practices are against Islamic teachings…. (check this link for further readings)

Fur and Other Uses of Animals
There is a large-scale carnage of fur-bearing animals….to satisfy human needs, most of which are non-essential, fanciful, wasteful and for which alternative, humane products are easily available….The excuse that such things are essential for human needs is no longer valid. Modern technology has produced all these things in synthetic materials and they are easily available all over the world, in some cases at a cheaper price.
Some juristic rules that apply are: “That which was made permissible for a reason, becomes unpermissible by the absence of that reason.” (Ma jaza le uzrin, batala be zawalehi) and “All false excuses leading to damage should be repudiated.” (Sadduz-zarae al-mua’ddiyate ela-l-fasad). These rules leave no excuse for the Muslims to remain complacent about the current killing of animals in their millions for their furs, tusks, oil, and various other commodities.
The Qur’an Majeed does mention animals as a source of warm clothing (Qur’an 16:5), but modern-day clothing made of synthetic fibers is just as warm as clothing made from animal skins and makes clothing from animal skins unnecessary. The Qur’an refers only to the skins and furs of domesticated cattle which either die their natural death or are slaughtered for food. Today, millions of wild animals are killed commercially just for their furs and skins, while their carcasses are left to rot. Fourteen centuries ago Islam realized the absurdity of this wasteful and cruel practice and passed laws to stop it in the following Ahadith:
The Holy Prophet Muhammad(s) prohibited the use of skins of wild animals. (Narrated by Abu Malik on the authority of his father. Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi as recorded in Garden of the Righteous – Riyad as-Salihin of Imam Nawawi; translated by M.Z. Kahn; Curzon Press, London, 1975; [hereafter referred to as Riyad]; Hadith No. 815, p. 160.)
The Holy Prophet Muhammad(s) forbade the skins of wild animals being used as floor-coverings. (id)
The Holy Prophet(s) said: ‘Do not ride on saddles made of silk or leopard skins.’ (Narrated by Mu’awiah. Abu Dawud; (see Riyad, Ref. No. 28); Hadith No. 814, p. 160.)
Inside the Chinese Fur Trade
About This Video
See the video that has the Chinese Fur Commission shaking in their boots and has convinced top designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein; aswell as Paris Hilton and Martha Stewart to go fur-free.
Eighty five percent of the world ’s fur originates from farms. China is the world ’s largest exporter of fur clothing and according to industry sources, the biggest fur trade production and processing base in the world. Wild species bred for fur include red and arctic foxes, raccoon dogs, mink, and Rex Rabbits. According to Chinese fur industry sources, a growing number of international fur traders, processors and fashion designers have gradually shifted their business to China, where cheap labour and the absence of restrictive regulations make life easier and profit margins broader.
In all farms visited in China, animals were handled roughly and were confined to rows of inappropriate, small wire cages. Signs of extreme anxiety and pathological behaviours were prominent throughout. Other indicators of poor welfare include high cub mortality and infanticide. And since China has no animal welfare laws, these practices are perfectly legal and legitimate under current legislation.
To donate your fur coats to the Humane Society, where it will be used as bedding to rehabilitate injured wildlife, visit http://www.hsus.org/furfree/campaigns…
