Film Directing
Published by Jun | Filed under Events, Filmmaking, Guerilla Filmmaking
Im so excited this coming weekend – October 13-14, 2007 because i’ll be joining the 1st Mindanao Film Directing Workshop. This event is also be attended by Guerrilla Filmmaking 5 workshoper.
After the workshop there will be around 8 to 10 filmmaker groups for film production because Teng target to produce around 10 short films – documentary or short feature – about the community assigned to him. The target communities areNorth Upi, Buluan and Paglas in Maguindanao; Wao and Kapatagan in Lanao del Sur; Lamitan in Basilan; P. Estino in Sulu; and Bongao in Tawi-Tawi.
Teng organize this workshop and he describe it as:
The Workshop in an intensive training focused at enhancing the directing and storytelling skills of up-and-coming filmmakers in Mindanao. Mowelfund Film Institute director Nick Deocampo will be the main speaker.
Deocampo studied theater arts at UP Diliman. He took his master’sdegree in cinema studies at the New York University, and documentary filmmaking in Paris. The enfant terrible of Philippine independent cinema, he is noted in particular for a three-part documentary series of 8mm works produced between 1983 and 1987–Oliver (‘83), Children of the Regime (‘85), and Revolution Happens Like Refrains in a Song (‘87)–that deal graphically with poverty and prostitution in the Philippines.
Heres the Timetable:

Because of this my semestral break vacation was cut short for only few days. I’ll be going home in Iligan today (wednesday) and be back here in davao by friday. So by Saturday i’ll be attending workshop learning and enhancing my directing skills.
I’m still imagining and wondering what story to produce. Of course it will all about the struggle of the Bangsamoro people. Storytelling about its struggle during wars and how to cope the hardship until now? I’ll be assigned in Wao and Kapatagan in Lanao del Sur and hoping my friend Joharieh can help me since her mother was the municipal mayor of Kapatagan. This area is one of the most devastated because of All-out-war in Mindanao. Theres one big encounter where MILF Freedom Fighters as far as from Lanao del Norte reinforce MILF in Kapatagan. The war is really a mess.
I’m not gonna film a war, since according to Teng
“The focus of the films shall be the positive impact of efforts towards good governance that have contributed to better education, effective delivery of social services, sustainable livelihood, peace building, and environmental protection.”
I already have several stories in mind and i don’t want to spoil here blogging about it. I’m just so excited. I can’t wait for the upcoming Mindanao Film Festival and please support us Independent Filmmakers.
I’ll be looking for a crew as i just decided to Direct my own Film.
If you want to help me in anyway like financial so i can buy mini DV’s and rent for equipment, please leave a comment here and contact number or email.
