Human Rights Day 2007
Published by Jun | Filed under Human Rights Day
December 10, 2007 - a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
After my class i join and take some pictures of the Rally of Karapatan ( Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights ) commemorating the Human Rights Day 2007 here in Davao City, infront of Ateneo de Davao University. They are joined with some progressive groups like KMU (Kilusang Mayu Uno), Suara Bangsamoro, Gabriela and some group i forgot to take notes.
KARAPATAN is an alliance of individuals, groups and organizations working for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Philippines. Its founders and members have been at the forefront of the human rights struggle in the Philippines since the time of Marcos’ martial law regime. KARAPATAN was founded by its member organizations in 1995 (when the former umbrella organization no longer satisfied the needs of its member organizations and of the people’s organizations it was supposed to serve). Set up to respond to the needs of its member organizations, KARAPATAN has very close linkages with them.
During my activism days in the Lanao province, i was been part of the progressive group Anak Bayan, League of Filipino Students to National Union of Students of the Philippines . It was because of them i learn about the struggle of the Moro people and rights to self-determination. I’m now affiliated with Young Moro Professionals Network, Inc. (YMPN) where i still continue to advocate about the rights of the Moro people.
Here’s some pictures of placards of missing person or summarily killed. Until now their relatives are looking for them for those missing and to those murdered they are still waiting for Justice.

One of the victims i know is Benjaline “Beng” Hernandez because she is from Ateneo de Davao University.

And a Moro - Datu Sabdura Ala, until now he is missing since April 3, 2003.
When will this summary killings be stop? How many innocent civilians will be bomb and killed in MinSuPala and the Philippines? How many innocent Moro people will be missing nor abducted because of terrorism? How many Moro people will be displaced in war? How many Moro people will be stereotype and labeled as terrorists?
When will this atrocities against the Filipino and Moro people will be stop?
When will the Filipino Government to finally give the fundamental rights of the Moro people to be Independent once again?
