Open Call for Computer/Digital Art (National Arts Month 2008)
Published by Jun | Filed under Events
=====================================
NCCA NATIONAL ARTS MONTH (NAM2008):
OPEN CALL FOR COMPUTER/DIGITAL ART
=====================================
Part of the NAM2008 celebration is an Open Call for Computer/Digital Art (all formats, including software art or aesthetic programs, web or net art, ascii art, sound art and experimental forms of computer art) on theme: “PROCES/SYON.” Works will be shown at the National Arts Month celebration in February 2008.
The general rule on formats is for the work to be transmissible, executable and viewable through the Internet. Thus for static images, for example, these should be optimized for web-based viewing and not for printing. For software art, these should be executable/accessible via a browser. For sound, these should be in formats suited to streaming. In principle, the works should take into consideration the Internet (and certainly the computer!) as medium.
TOWARDS A FREE, OPEN & CREATIVE SOCIETY
Insofar as the use of computer hardware and software are concerned, “PROCES/SYON” particularly solicits the support of the FOSS (Free/Open Source Software) community, to explore and scrutinize the notions of “free” and “open source” as philosophy and/or pragmatic methodology for artists as they struggle for a truly free, open and creative environment in a fast-technologizing, commodifying and globalizing world.
If you are an artist using FOSS and/or create art that is distributed under GPL or CC licenses, we encourage you to submit a work in the “Open Call for Digital Art” where your work will be presented in a special category.
Filipinos working and residing outside the country, especially the large community of OFW creative workers : visual artists, graphic designers, digital animators, programmers, and entertainers – are especially encouraged to participate.
Submission duration is from January 15 to February 15, 2008.
==================
Submission Process:
==================
Download the Submission Form (also pasted below), fill-up and send mailto:processyon@gmail.com) on or before February 15, 2008 to Proces/syon.
“PROCES/SYON” is a National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) funded project involving a collaboration between the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) and Korakora.org. It is part of the NCCA-National Arts Month celebration and is intended to expand and develop Philippine digital art practices within the context of the continually evolving “WEBSINING” tradition initiated by the National Committee on Visual Arts (NCVA) in 2005.
